Embarrassing typos are the bane that befalls every productive Twitter user if there’s even the slightest distraction before they send out a tweet on Twitter. As a victim, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve prayed for an edit button to fix an embarrassing typo that I didn’t notice until too late. In a phenomenon that probably all Twitter users can relate to, Twitter developers have finally decided to relax their rigid stance on editing Twitter posts.
Twitter is adding a REAL edit button! | Everything you need to know about the edit option.
Yes, it's really happening! Twitter is working on an editing option! Here's everything we've gathered about the new feature.
The Edit button is an experimental feature under development in Twitter Labs to provide a much-requested editing option to its users. Whether there should be an option to edit a tweet after it has been sent is a topic with polarized opinions. The proponents of immutable tweets argue that tweets should remain immutable to deprive any user of the ability to rephrase an opinion they previously shared after it has exploded on the platform. Until now, Twitter has also stuck to its position of letting users take responsibility for the words and comments they choose to send.
These thoughts tell us that the “editability” of a tweet raises concerns that go far deeper than correcting typos. Liberal and uncensored access to the feature could allow a user to revise an originally controversial tweet into an unsuspecting tweet to hide its nefarious characteristics.
