Digital cameras introduced a lot of great features to the world of photography, including the ability to look at a photo you just took to make sure it looks good before moving on to another scene. If someone had their eyes closed or the composition doesn’t look quite right, you can retake the photo. The key to this feature is the display. Read on to understand what an LCD is.

LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display, is the display technology used to create the screens built into the backs of almost all digital cameras. In a digital camera, the LCD functions to review photos, display menu options, and serve as a live viewfinder.

All digital cameras have full-color display screens. The display screen has actually become the preferred method of framing the scene, as only a small number of digital cameras now have a separate viewfinder, and these are usually for the more expensive cameras. On the other hand, all film cameras had to have a viewfinder in order to frame the scene.

The sharpness of the LCD depends on the number of pixels the LCD can display, and the camera specifications should state this number. A display with more pixels of resolution should be sharper than a display with fewer pixels.
