Microsoft Word is a word processing program that was first developed by Microsoft in 1983. Since then, Microsoft has released a plethora of updated versions, each offering more features and better technology than the last. The most recent web-based version of Microsoft Word is Microsoft 365, but the Microsoft Office 2019 software version includes Word 2019.
What is Microsoft Word?
Microsoft Word is included in all Microsoft 365 application suites. The most basic (and least expensive) suites also include Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel. There are additional suites that include other Office programs, such as Microsoft Outlook and Skype for Business.
If you just want to create simple documents consisting of bulleted paragraphs and numbered lists with very little formatting, you don't need to buy Microsoft Word. You can use the WordPad application that comes with Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. However, if you want to do more, you'll need a more powerful word processing program.
Microsoft Word lets you choose from a variety of pre-configured styles and designs, providing an easy way to format long documents with just one click. You can also insert images and videos from your computer and the Internet, draw shapes, and create and insert all kinds of charts.
