Tethering refers to using a mobile device connected to the internet as a modem for a separate device, such as a laptop or a tablet with only Wi-Fi. This approach provides internet access on the go, wherever you are. You connect your phone directly to your laptop or tablet with a USB cable, or wirelessly via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Phone tethering as soon as possible
Tethering provides internet connectivity to devices that don’t have a built-in mobile data plan. It’s especially useful in situations where no other means of internet access are available: for example, when there’s no Wi-Fi hotspot nearby, your cable modem is dead, or you’re on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere and need an online map.
If you already pay for data on your mobile phone and your mobile provider doesn’t charge extra for using your mobile phone as a modem for your laptop, tethering can also save you money. You don’t have to pay for a separate mobile broadband service or buy extra hardware to connect your laptop.
You can also surf the web more securely with a connected phone, because your data is sent directly through the phone rather than through, say, a public wireless hotspot.
