Earlier this year, Riot Games announced plans to bring its custom security software Vanguard to League of Legends as part of the next step in the fight against hackers in the popular MOBA title.
why Riot's new anti-cheat feature is a HUGE problem.
Vanguard is Riot Games’ own anti-cheat currently in use with the company’s popular tactical first-person shooter, VALORANT. It’s a powerful tool that detects cheaters regardless of what type of program they’re using, and has kept the game largely free of misconduct since its release in 2020.
However, there's a lot of nuance behind the scenes at Riot when it comes to implementing this system for League, especially since so many people complain about what Vanguard is doing to their computers.
Riot Vanguard is a kernel-level anti-cheat program that runs at a higher privilege level than other programs on your PC. It usually starts before other software and always runs in the background, regardless of whether you are playing VALORANT, League, or another Riot game.
