When Apple introduced the iPad Air, changing the name from simply "iPad" to "iPad Air" signaled a shift in Apple's philosophy, namely to split the iPad line into models of varying sizes and capabilities. Those models are the iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad Pro. All iPad models are available in either a Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular configuration.
A PLOT TWIST!! iPad 10 vs iPad Air 5
The iPad Air was the first tablet to feature a 64-bit chip. While the jump from 32-bit to 64-bit was initially dismissed as more of a novelty than a technological leap, the improvement has proven to be a nice boost in power for the iPad. The iPad Air is roughly twice as fast as the iPad 4 that preceded it. The iPad Air also includes the M7 motion coprocessor, which is dedicated to processing signals from the iPad's various motion-detection sensors.
The iPad Air doesn’t support all the multitasking features of its successor, the iPad Air 2, and it doesn’t have Touch ID. It also has only a 5MP rear-facing camera, compared to the 8MP camera on the iPad Air 2.
Over time, the iPad Air has been further developed and new versions have been introduced.
