The Windows user’s quest for storage space is never-ending. Clean out your PC in January and your storage space will be full again by spring. If you dig deeper to find out what’s hogging that space, you’ll likely come across the WinSxS folder on your Windows machine.
WinSxS (short for “Windows Side by Side”) is a folder (location: C:/Windows/WinSxS) in which Windows stores files needed to install Windows and backups or versions of those files.
When you need to repair system files or add or remove Windows features, Windows looks here for the files it needs to perform an action. That’s why it’s also called the component store.
