Joystick drift, a defect in which the joystick or analog stick on your controller registers movements that you do not make, is one of the most annoying problems that a game console controller can experience. Often a major repair or even a complete replacement is necessary.
A recent malfunction of the PS5's DualSense controller has revealed a number of reasons why PS5 owners may see joystick drift, particularly when playing games that require you to use the controller extensively to move and power the camera. While these issues aren't avoidable, experts say there are things users can do to reduce the chances of encountering the issue.
“Analog stick drift is fairly pervasive across gaming consoles, and the PS5 is just the latest to come under fire, though the complaints are serious (and justified) considering the console has only been on the market for a short period of time,” Gadget Review CEO Rex Freiberger told Lifewire in an email.
