On Tuesday, October 13 at 10 a.m. PDT, Apple will unveil the latest iPhones during another virtual event. We could also see new AirPods, the long-awaited Apple Tags, and maybe even an ARM-based Mac.
October is a busy month for Apple. The iPhone launch is almost a 100% certainty, but long-term rumors point to a host of other new gadgets. Additionally, Apple has promised us new Apple Silicon Macs before the end of the year. It’s possible there will be another event for these new Macs, but Apple could also use the ultra-bright media spotlight shining on the iPhone to amplify its Mac message.
“I think MacBook and Mac mini will be the first models to get an upgrade to Apple Silicon,” Andrea Nepori, technical writer at La Stampa, told Lifewire via instant message.
The iPhone 12 (as it’ll likely be called) is interesting enough in its own right. It’s likely to adopt the flatter, thinner design of the iPad Pro and new iPad Air, similar to the iPhone 5 and 6 (which, in my opinion, looked the best). It’ll have the latest A14 chip, as seen in the new 2020 iPad Air , and it will almost certainly have 5G cellular connectivity. Whether 5G will be useful depends on coverage in your area. The notch that houses the front-facing cameras will also be smaller.
