This article explains how to find out what version of Internet Explorer you have installed and why this is important. There are two ways to do this: through Internet Explorer itself and through the command prompt. These instructions apply to Windows Vista and later.
How to check which version of Internet Explorer you have
The easiest way is to check the version number in the About Internet Explorer dialog box:
Open Internet Explorer.
Select the gear icon or use the shortcut Alt+X.
