Black creatives are described as tastemakers on the app and are credited with starting many of the platform's most enduring social trends, from dance crazes like "Renegade" to popular sounds with video commentary from rapper Nicki Minaj.
On August 6, President Trump issued an executive order banning the popular social media app from operating in the United States starting September 15 if Chinese executives don’t close deals with American buyers. The order targets TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance Ltd., with sanctions prohibiting “any transaction by any person, or involving any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, with ByteDance Ltd.”
The announcement came a week after President Trump initially threatened a ban, sparking outrage on social media platforms.
