Today, two new privacy features are available on WhatsApp that help screen calls and provide advice on your privacy and security settings.
WhatsApp introduces three new security features: details here
WhatsApp offers users a variety of settings to better manage their privacy, and it just added two more to the list. Privacy Checkup acts as a setup guide, and Silence Unknown Callers works as an additional layer to screen out potentially unwanted calls.
More specifically, Privacy Checkup is an optional step-by-step process that walks you through some of your privacy settings. This checkup will look at the settings you have enabled (or not enabled) and make recommendations as you go, to better protect your personal information, secure your messages, and more. It’s something that WhatsApp hopes will encourage more people to pay closer attention to their privacy settings.
Silence Unknown Callers focuses solely on incoming calls, and it does exactly what its name implies. With this feature enabled, WhatsApp will automatically screen any calls you receive from numbers you don’t recognize. So the app won’t ring for unknown numbers, but the calls will appear in your call log after the fact, so you can review them in case there’s an important number. It’s something that WhatsApp thinks will go a long way in helping you deal with scammers, spam calls, and other calls from strangers that you might prefer to avoid.
