WhatsApp is bringing the quality setting to iOS devices in the latest beta version of the messaging app.
WhatsApp introduces high-quality video sharing feature
Details of the latest WhatsApp beta on iOS were originally picked up by WABetaInfo following the release of beta version 2.21. 150. 11. According to 9To5Mac, the beta introduces the quality settings that WhatsApp previously began testing on Android in early July.
The new setting, which allows users to toggle between Auto, Best Quality and Data Saver, gives users more control over how the app compresses the photos or media they send. WABetaInfo notes that while the “Best Quality” setting offers, it does not appear to send the photo in its original quality. Instead, a lighter compression ratio is used. This should result in the final image being around 80 percent of its original quality and allowing for images larger than 2048 x 2048 to be resized.
This is just one of many new features that WhatsApp is testing. Previously, it introduced secure cloud backups for the Android version of its messaging app. While that backup was disabled shortly after, it’s a good example of the steps WhatsApp is taking to bring new features to its user base. The messaging giant is also testing support for syncing across multiple devices, another feature that’s been requested by the community.
