WhatsApp will finally give users the ability to transfer their chat history from iOS to their Android device. However, it was not specified whether this will only apply to Samsung hardware.
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will let iOS users transfer chat history to Android phones
According to The Verge, the announcement that iOS users will be able to transfer their chat history to the new Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 came during Samsung’s Unpacked Online presentation on Wednesday. It was previously possible to back up your chat history and even restore those backups to a new device, but not across operating systems.
Transferring your chat history requires a physical transfer via a Lightning to USB-C cable, not over an internet or Bluetooth connection. The Verge also points out that if you have backups on both Android and iOS, you can’t combine both histories into one.
To perform the transfer, you will need to overwrite your Android backups with your iOS history.
