Popular messaging app WhatsApp has started testing secure cloud backups for Android users. The app has launched its latest beta version.

WhatsApp has started offering secure cloud backups in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.21. 15.5, Engadget reports. The option to enable secure backups was first spotted by WABetaInfo, and users can opt to upload their conversation history to the cloud.

WhatsApp still offers its signature end-to-end encryption on backups, a mainstay of the app for several years. The app developer only started rolling out the feature to the beta version last week. Unfortunately, WhatsApp disabled encrypted backups in version 2.21. 25.7 a day later, citing “connectivity issues” as the root cause. It’s unclear when the company plans to turn it back on.

It’s not uncommon for companies to test unannounced features in their beta builds, but that appears to be the case here. According to WABetaInfo, the feature can be enabled through the app’s settings on Android devices that have received it. When enabled, WhatsApp will automatically back up all conversations you have to the cloud using end-to-end encryption.
