Rumors, leaks, and other content cycle bits surrounding a potential Nintendo Switch 2 have been circulating for years as the original console continues to age. Now, Nintendo has provided an exact timeline for when it will officially unveil its next console.
WHEN WILL THE NEXT Nintendo CONSOLE BE RELEASED?
While Nintendo isn't quite ready to move on and will still support the Switch for the foreseeable future, it did note that the "Switch's successor" will be announced soon. This means that more than seven years after the console's launch, we're finally getting our first official details as to where Nintendo is heading next. So, whether that direction is an entirely new console or something similar to the much-requested Super Nintendo Switch angle, here's what we know about the upcoming reveal.
While we still don't know if Nintendo will actually retain the Nintendo Switch branding for its next system, we do know that the console will be announced before the end of March 2025.
During an earnings call on May 7, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that an announcement for the "successor to the Nintendo Switch" will be made within this fiscal year, meaning fiscal year 2025 for Nintendo and a cut-off date of March 31, 2025. The original Switch reveal trailer aired in October 2016, with a larger showcase for the hardware and upcoming games held months later in January 2017 before the console's March 3, 2017 launch — which could provide a good frame of reference for this successor.
