After defeating the Golden Hippopotamus in Shadow Keep, the next step is to figure out what exactly you want to do. The Golden Hippo boss fight is very unique in that, despite being one of the “early” bosses, it leads to one of the most complex areas in the DLC, which can simultaneously push you into the endgame long before you’re ready to tackle it. Either way, reaching the Specimen Storehouse is a good place to start, because even if you decide to venture out of Shadow Keep and check out the rest of the Shadowed Lands first, you can quickly come back later.
The Specimen Storehouse is located in Shadow Keep, so you don't have to go to a new area. However, it is difficult to find your way around Shadow Keep and it is easy to get lost.
After you defeat the Golden Hippo, you should see a path to the left of the Site of Grace. Head there and keep moving forward. You’ll encounter a few Messmer soldiers nearby; avoid or kill them if necessary. There will be a wooden staircase leading up a bit, take it up and stop in the small area to the right to grab a thrusting sword if you fancy it. Be warned that there are more Messmer soldiers here, and one of those big Messmer Knights there. Either way, head up the stairs to reach a new level, with a doorway leading to a dining room.
