New third-person shooters are constantly appearing these days, but not all of them have the best gameplay.
The world's most technical third-person shooter – Rise And Fall Of Gunz
In a recent Reddit thread, a user stated that the gunplay in The First Descendant didn’t feel right and that first-person shooters were much more manageable. The user then asked others what third-person shooters could do the job just as well as first-person. Many of the responses contained some pretty obvious answers, such as Xbox-exclusive Gears of War and the more recent online shooter phenomenon Helldivers 2.
But there were also many responses that pointed to action-adventure games with third-person shooter elements. A common response was Naughty Dog’s apocalyptic thriller The Last of Us Part II, which complimented not only the shooting, but virtually every aspect of that game’s combat system. There were also mixed responses to Remedy Entertainment’s Control, which combined standard shooting with various supernatural powers. While not as common, there were those who responded to games that didn’t use traditional shooting at all, such as the superpowers in the Infamous games or the silly sci-fi weaponry of the Ratchet & Clank series.
With so many different reactions across multiple games, it’s clear that the question of whether third-person shooters can handle first-person just as well, even if they don’t quite fit into the shooter genre, has been answered. You could even argue that some of these can handle first-person better, but that’s a Reddit thread for another time.
