In Genshin Impact, there are beings in Teyvat that are more powerful than mortals: the divine Archons. These beings inherit their power directly from Celestia and are called The Seven. They each rule over a nation of Teyvat.

Some Archons witnessed the war that led to the Cataclysm 500 years ago, while others achieved their status immediately afterward. They all have a Gnosis that represents the Element corresponding to the nation they rule, which the Cryo Archon is trying to gather for unknown reasons.

The drunken bard, Venti, is one of the few original Archons never to be replaced. He began his life as a simple elemental wind spirit during the Archon War. During this time, he befriended a young boy from Mondstadt, who taught him to sing and play the lyre. The two remained friends for a time until the boy lost his life, an unfortunate casualty of the nation's rebellion against the God of Storms, Decarabian. In an unexpected twist, the fall of the God of Storms granted Venti great power as the new Anemo Archon, and he used this power to change his appearance in honor of the friend he had lost.
