Apple’s long-awaited over-ear headphones have finally launched. For $549, you get a pair of AirPods Max with a bundled case and charging cable, but no charger. Who on earth would buy these things?
$550 AirPods Max are OFFICIAL! Everything you NEED to know before you order!
Based on the performance of the diminutive, in-ear AirPods and the AirPods Pro, the AirPods Max probably sound incredible. They also feature some classic Apple design touches, like the Apple Watch-esque Digital Crown for volume control, magnetic aluminum earcups, and a headband design so sensible you’ll wonder why it’s not adopted everywhere. Even for Apple, that’s a steep price, and yet shipping times have already dropped to 12-14 weeks. So what do people think?
"Price-wise, $550 isn't outrageous," Mac and iOS app developer Paul Haddad wrote on Twitter. "It's a slightly odd price point between <$400 midrange and >$1k high-end."
The AirPods Max use a pair of Apple’s H1 headphone chips to power their sound processing features. These include noise cancellation, adaptive audio (adjusts to the fit on your ears and the fit of the headphones), transparency mode (adds ambient noise to the audio), and adaptive EQ.
