According to experts, the gap between flagship and mid-range devices is narrowing, and in the future we could even expect phones' specs to become as customizable as PCs.
This $150 smartphone might just be all you need.
Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset. Much like the company’s high-end Snapdragon 888, the new device brings additional video recording features, AI capabilities, and better performance to premium mid-range devices.
This is yet another move by the company to improve the overall capabilities of the system chips in lower-end devices, which could completely negate the need to buy a more expensive flagship.
“Qualcomm chipsets are slowly closing the gap between mid-range and flagship phones,” Steven Athwal, a smartphone expert at The Big Phone Store, told Lifewire in an email. “These game-changing chipsets essentially eliminate the need to spend extra money on higher-end phones.”
