Apple may not want to make affordable, standalone displays for its computers, but the company does have a responsibility to itself and its users.
"The Apple Studio Display is a bad deal"
The rumors of new Apple-designed monitors are getting stronger, with even Apple rumormonger Mark Gurman saying he “strongly believes” Apple will launch one. Currently, the only external display in Apple’s lineup is the $5,000 ($6,000 if you want it with a stand) Pro Display XDR. The last affordable monitor for regular people was the Apple Thunderbolt Display, sold from 2011-2016. So, a new monitor in 2022? It’s about time.
"Apple has shown over the years that it can make beautiful displays in virtually any form factor, and their standalone monitors are no different in that regard. Buyers can expect excellent resolution, frame rate, and color depth," web designer and Pixoul CEO Devon Fata told Lifewire via email.
You can connect a Mac to any display, but few models offer the level of integration that Mac users have come to expect. At the very least, an Apple-made monitor would wake up instantly, like the ones built into iMacs and MacBook Pros. And it wouldn’t flash a disconnect message on the screen for ten seconds before the backlight dims every time your computer goes to sleep.
