Clubhouse announced it would pay a select group of “creators” to help build its audience. The program, called Creator First, is intended to help content producers monetize their efforts. Experts say the move appears to be an attempt to launch a rival to traditional broadcasting and podcasting.
“The new Creator First program is a great way to get some fresh voices to create live audio content on Clubhouse,” Scott Kirsner, CEO and co-founder of Innovation Leader, a business transformation network, said in an email interview. “But it’s going to be a while before Rachel Maddow or Howard Stern have to worry about being dethroned by a Clubhouse show with a massive audience.”
Clubhouse is an iPhone-only voice chat app that allows users to host and participate in various conversations. When you open the app, you’ll see a list of “rooms” that you can join or create your own. Each room features a different topic, often hosted by an expert.
