According to experts, a lack of content and too much ambition has led Google Stadia to close its internal development team, Stadia Games and Entertainment (SG&E).
Why Google Stadia Failed 😭
Just under two years after SG&E's announcement, Google said it would stop making its own games for the Stadia platform. While the platform remains Google's sole focus in gaming, experts say Google's ambitions to become a leader in in-house gaming content creation have fallen short.
"Stadia's biggest problem for Google was the lack of content," Jack Adams, a content writer at servers.com, wrote to Lifewire in an email. "The best technology in the world would struggle to engage gamers if there were no games to play."
Google officially launched Google Stadia in November 2019 as a cloud-based gaming platform designed to act as a sort of game streaming service. The appeal is that you can play games without the need for a console, such as a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.
