I love my iPad Air 2020 and its accompanying keyboard case, but the whole setup is so expensive that I’m sometimes afraid to take it outside. That’s why I can’t wait to try out the new Amazon Fire HD 10 series, which has pretty much everything you need to work and play for a staggeringly low price.
Amazon Fire HD 10 (2024) review | Best budget tablet?
For $219, you’ll get a bundle that includes the new tablet, plus a one-year subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal, which includes all Office apps and 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage, and a detachable keyboard cover. At this price, debates about whether the HD10 is comparable to the iPad are moot, because of course it isn’t.
My iPad Air costs $599, plus my Apple Magic Keyboard costs $299. You’re getting into decent laptop-price territory with the iPad configuration, but the $200 range for the Fire makes it something I can confidently throw in a backpack.
Amazon has long positioned its tablets as a great way to consume content, preferably Amazon’s own stuff like movies and music, and to order stuff. But the new HD10 is clearly aimed at productivity, too.
