No man may be an island, but the 3G on my Kindle DX has saved me from information overload. I'm sad that Amazon recently announced that it's going to kill the connection.
Kindle 3G e-readers will stop working from 2022
Older Kindle models will lose their built-in internet access starting in December. The change comes as mobile carriers are dropping 3G networking technology in favor of newer 4G and 5G networks. Older Kindles without Wi-Fi won’t be able to connect to the internet at all.
For many users, the loss of 3G won’t mean much. After all, the Kindle is a terrible device for accessing the Internet. With its slow processor and monochrome screen, the Kindle is designed for reading, not browsing. But the 3G Internet connection provides a direct line to Amazon’s vast selection of books.
If you recently purchased a Kindle reading device, don’t worry. The latest Kindle devices with 4G will still work, but older devices that shipped with 3G and Wi-Fi support, including the Kindle Keyboard (3rd generation), Kindle Touch (4th generation), Kindle Paperwhite (4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th generation), Kindle Voyage (7th generation), and Kindle Oasis (8th generation), can only connect via Wi-Fi.
