Cortana, we barely knew you.

The beloved character from the Halo video games that Microsoft borrowed for its voice assistant will be less common than before. The company recently disabled the Cortana service for Android and iOS devices.

I would miss Cortana even if she weren’t as useful to me as Master Chief. I love the idea of voice assistants, and it was a thrill to hear Cortana’s familiar tones instead of the more mechanical intonations of Siri or Alexa.

If you used the Cortana mobile app, it stopped working late last month. Microsoft is no longer supporting the app, and Cortana content that users previously created, including reminders and lists, is unavailable.
