After eight long years of boring copy-paste shooters, Ratchet and Clank are back to bring some much-needed fun to the genre with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

I say eight years because I'm not counting the 2016 reboot, which served purely as a tie-in to the mediocre film of the same name. Canonically speaking, Into The Nexus was the last game in the series to continue the nearly two-decade-long story I've invested my time in, and it's that history I'm eager to continue with the latest entry.

Ratchet & Clank is one of those shows that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. It’s that all-important nostalgia factor from revolutionary gaming company Insomniac Games, who have reimagined the buddy-cop movie theme into a best-selling series. The only reason I’m buying a PS5 this summer is so I can visit two of my childhood best friends again.

A previously released seven-minute gameplay demo shows off a beautifully rendered world and our favorite duo trashing the galaxy, introducing fully realized, rapidly changing landscapes that are now only possible thanks to the PS5’s solid-state drive.
