The time you spend on your phone or computer may soon become a lot more immersive.
Why Immersive Learning is the Next Big Trend
The world is moving toward immersive computing platforms that let you sense and interact with your environment in new ways, Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta, said recently. It’s part of a growing movement toward the metaverse, a network of virtual places connected to a virtual universe.
“Currently, digital information is hosted on 2D screens that require the user to be fully immersed in the digital world in order to interact with it,” Christopher M. Reid, the founder of goHere, a creative agency specializing in mixed reality, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Immersive computing, better known as spatial computing, will make digital information more accessible and useful by embedding 3D interactive holograms into physical space.”
Virtual reality (VR) is the most obvious example of immersive computing, and it’s a hot topic. Revenue in the VR space is expected to grow to $52.05 billion by 2027. Clegg predicted that social and business gatherings would soon be ubiquitous in virtual reality. Meta’s own Horizon Worlds virtual and social space, however, has been criticized by some observers.
