The next time you see a doctor, chances are they were trained in the Metaverse.
Impacting Global Health with an XR Model for Medical Training with Jared Mermey and Deborah Lee
Involve XR is an immersive learning platform that provides medical students with an AI-driven virtual patient, as well as a flexible lesson creation program. An instructor and multiple students can enter the same virtual space to practice skills such as airway management, patient assessment, and mental health de-escalation, which can be difficult to teach in the workplace.
Built in Unreal Engine by Toronto-based Lumeto, Involve XR is device agnostic, though it was built and tested using the Oculus Quest. Lumeto announced earlier this month that its software has been selected for administration at colleges and universities across Ontario, and testing is currently underway with the American College of Chest Physicians.
“We see the potential of immersive learning. There’s a lot of scientific knowledge to support it. Spatial learning in this kind of technology just works,” Lumeto CEO Raja Khanna said in a Zoom meeting with Lifewire. “You get better learning outcomes. Now it’s a question of, ‘How do you use this most efficiently?’”
