Jailbreaking, or rooting as it’s often called on Android, was once a common practice on iPhones. Many would jailbreak their devices to gain access to unique themes, deeper file browsers, and the ability to install third-party apps. While it’s become much more difficult to do, it can still be a worthwhile step towards gaining more control over your device. However, there are notable risks involved.

“You could potentially compromise the system,” he continued, “leaving you open to hackers who might try to infiltrate your device and introduce malware or viruses [to attack]. Jailbreaking essentially removes the security measures that Apple has put in place to protect your phone from various threats. Therefore, you also run the risk of voiding the phone’s warranty with Apple.”
