Apple is going to replace the iPhone with a USB-C port, and people are going to be very, very angry about this.
What your iPhone 15's USB-C port can and can't do!
Thanks to the EU, Apple has been forced to adopt the USB-C charging and data transfer standard for the iPhone 15, replacing the Lightning connector that’s been around since 2012. And in those 11 years, people have collected a lot of Lightning cables. They have them in their cars, on charging stations in the hallway, and on nightstands. They probably have a frayed, cracked one in every bag. And here’s why, despite the fact that Apple had little choice in the matter, people are going to be angry.
"Many people were concerned and annoyed that they had to buy all new cords and accessories when Apple switched from the 30-pin dock connector to the Lightning port. Users eventually got used to the faster data transfers and greater ecosystem flexibility that the Lightning port provides. Similarly, the switch to USB-C may cause some initial irritation, but the widespread adoption of the new standard will ultimately benefit users," app developer Johan Alexander told Lifewire via email.
This has happened before, when Apple dropped the ridiculously oversized 30-pin dock connector and replaced it with the then-new Lightning. But as we’ll see, this time around is very different. Back then, it was clear that the Lightning connector was vastly superior to the dock connector it replaced. It was smaller, clicked into place better, and, unlike the then-current micro-USB alternative, could be inserted into any position you wanted.
