Spotify is testing a new subscription plan with ads and a few extra features. Experts say it could attract new users who want premium features but don’t want the full cost of an ad-free subscription.
Spotify Premium subscription for less than £1.20? Here's how…
As one of the biggest names in music streaming, Spotify has built a solid foundation on its free and paid subscription options. Now, however, it’s testing a cheaper, ad-supported plan. Previously, Spotify only offered a free, ad-supported option and a Premium version, which offers unlimited skips and other features. Spotify Plus will include some of these Premium-only features, but will still be ad-supported. If Spotify can find a way to make this subscription attractive to consumers, it could offer listeners more without costing them too much.
“Spotify’s move not only increases the number of paying users, but also introduces users to the benefits of a paid subscription,” Shahar Aizenberg, Chief Marketing Officer at Artlist, told Lifewire in an email.
Over the past year, Spotify has been bringing more content to its platform, particularly in the form of exclusive content. A great example of this push is how Spotify has increased the number of premium podcasts on its service, including several featuring celebrities like Barack Obama, Joe Rogan, and more.
