If you think every social platform has a Stories feature now, that's because it does. According to experts, the popularity of the feature will only increase on more and more platforms.
Why "stories" took over social media
Social Media Stories allow you to post a video or photo for a short period of time for your followers to see a real-time glimpse into your daily life, which really adds to the “social” aspect of social media. Now, more and more platforms outside of social media are integrating this type of ephemeral content, further cementing its role in the future of the internet.
“What was once a permanent post on Facebook or Instagram, like a meal or a fun night out, became a Snap,” Andrew Selepak, a professor of social media at the University of Florida, told Lifewire in an email. “Ephemeral content now has a permanent place in social media.”
Stories may seem like they’ve been around since the dawn of social media, since they’re so ingrained in every platform these days, but the feature is only a decade old. Snapchat can give credit to the feature back in 2011, when it debuted videos and photos that only lasted 24 hours, making people want to watch them before their chance to do so was gone.
