The iPad mini 6 isn’t the most powerful iPad, it doesn’t have the best screen, and the display can be a little cramped at times, but for most people it’s arguably the perfect iPad.

The iPad Pro can easily serve as someone’s primary or only computer. Paired with the Magic Keyboard cover with trackpad, the 12.9-inch iPad is a worthy laptop replacement. But that combo costs at least $1,448 and weighs over three pounds. The M1 MacBook Air costs just $999, weighs 2.8 pounds, and offers far more power and flexibility in its software. While the iPad Pro is vastly superior to the MacBook Air in terms of hardware, macOS is still vastly superior to iPadOS—and I say that as someone who used the iPad as my sole work computer for years.

But the iPad mini is the perfect iPad for someone who already has a Mac.
