British company Solid State Logic has developed a hybrid analogue/USB mixer that is so well thought out, it could be the last mixer you ever buy.

Most mixers are either built for the stage or for recording bands, with lots of mic inputs, or they are more like USB interfaces, with stereo inputs and USB, but no physical controls. The Big Six is both; SSL quality but with a bunch of handy stereo inputs and outputs. It’s pretty much perfect for home or a small pro studio, and you don’t need anything else.

Of course, not everyone is happy. “I would have preferred if they hadn’t added an interface and instead given us separate outputs on all the channels,” Chicago-based musician Hold My Beer told Lifewire in a forum post. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

The $3,000 SSL Big Six is the bigger brother of the already popular SSL Six. The original Six had six input channels (more or less), hence the name. The Big Six is larger, but the "Six" part is nothing more than a nod to the older model. For starters, it has eight main inputs.
