The idea of a budget gaming console sounds off-putting. Perhaps it’s the use of the word budget or perhaps the idea of a slimmed-down gaming experience alone, but I suspect that’s why some people were wary of news of the Xbox Series S launching alongside the Xbox Series X in November. In reality, the Xbox Series S is shaping up to be a fantastic way to get into next-gen gaming for less.
Is the NEW Xbox Series S worth it?
The Xbox Series S comes in at a compelling price point of $299, and it’s part of Xbox All-Access to make it even more enticing (we’ll get to that in a moment). The Xbox Series S may be a smaller, more modest version of the Xbox Series X, but it’s still going to appeal to many.
Microsoft has split the latest Xbox console into two models: the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X. It previously did this with the previous Xbox One, which came in both Xbox One S and X variants. The difference is that both consoles are launching at the same time. That has raised some concerns. While the Xbox One X feels like the premium version of the Xbox One S, launching the Xbox Series S at the same time feels like you’re getting the poor man’s version, right? We get it, but you don’t.
Instead, you’re getting a much more stylish version of the Xbox Series, as the Series S is the smallest Xbox ever. Super-sleek in appearance, you won’t struggle to slot it into your living room setup the way you will with the overly bulky Xbox Series X. The smaller form factor does come at a price – the Xbox Series S is less powerful – but it’s a reasonably small price to pay.
