Twitch will likely be quiet on September 1 as many streamers join a boycott calling for stricter rules and measures against hate speech.

#ADayOffTwitch is streamers’ way of signaling the serious changes that need to be made to Twitch’s hate speech and harassment policies to better protect users on the platform. Streamers participating in the boycott say Twitch hasn’t done enough and should work with them to develop a viable solution to the problem.
“Sending out one tweet saying ‘we’re working on things’ is no longer enough for us,” Twitch streamer Lucia Everblack told Lifewire over the phone.
The boycott began earlier this month with the hashtag #TwitchDoBetter, which streamers used to ask the platform to better protect marginalized users from the hate speech they often experience.
