Twitter's undo button could be a good compromise between functionality and protection against the spread of misinformation, experts say.
Twitter wants to make you pay money to undo tweets
Twitter users have been clamoring for an edit button for a while now. Every new feature the social media giant releases brings with it a flood of new tweets about how the company isn’t listening to its community.
While an edit button seems like a good idea on paper, experts warn that giving users a way to change content after it's been live for a while could have bigger implications. That's why the undo button that Twitter is reportedly testing right now could be a good middle ground for those who want an edit button, and those who don't.
“Recent suggestions about how to curb abuse and harassment on social media networks, particularly banning anonymous accounts on the platform, ignore the hard fact that when people go online, they expect to see foul language, insults and threats, which they do, and they often act accordingly,” Aaron Drapkin, a social media privacy expert at ProPrivacy, told Lifewire via email.
