The Virtual Reality Church meets only with headsets. It is part of a growing movement to expand religious services to an increasingly technologically savvy religious audience. Virtual services may even have advantages over physical services, observers say.
“VR has no physical limitations and offers the ability to host services for as many people as you need,” said virtual reality developer Yury Yarmalovich of HQSoftware in an email interview.
"In addition, virtual spaces can be customized in any way the user wants. VR services are held over the Internet and can be visited by people anywhere in the world. You don't have to travel or even leave your home."
