With iOS updates, we tend to jump on them on day one, and with a few exceptions (like iOS 13), these updates go off without a hitch. But when it comes to Mac updates, many of the experts we contacted for this article recommend erring on the side of caution and waiting a week or two or two before updating. And the truth is, a few weeks won’t kill you, and it could save you some real headaches.
"I would recommend waiting until version .2 comes out. I was a day-one updater until Catalina messed up my MacMini. Now caution is my middle name," Brian "Caution" McLintic, founder of Real Good Software, told Lifewire via email. "With multiple devices in the house, updating can take a year. I prefer a stable Ventura over a buggy Sonoma. Also remember that things usually stabilize after the last update of the year."
macOS 14 Sonoma is a pretty neat update that further blurs the lines between Mac, iPhone, and iPad. When you restart your Mac after the update, you’ll be met with a very familiar new lock screen design, just like the iPad, including a clock smack dab in the middle of the display.
