Thanks to a series of recent developments in this area, you may soon be able to control your computer with just your thoughts.
Can you control a computer with your MIND?
A company backed by money from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is testing mind-controlled computing on humans. Synchron implants a device through blood vessels to allow people with no or minimal physical mobility to control technology like cursors and smart home devices with their thoughts.
“Ongoing advances in brain and computer science, as well as in physiological sensor/transmission and computing technology, are enabling iterative advances to enable increasingly comprehensive and capable real-world applications,” Dr. James Giordano, a professor of neurology and ethics at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, told Lifewire in an email interview.
In 2020, the FDA accelerated testing of Synchron’s brain gadget because it could improve treatment for debilitating or life-threatening conditions. Synchron is enrolling patients in a trial, hoping to show that the technology is safe to use in people.
