Nadu, Winged Wisdom is one of the strongest and most despised Magic: The Gathering cards to hit the Modern format via Modern Horizons 3.
MTG's announcement of a ban and restriction in June 2024!
The problem many MTG players have with Nadu, Winged Wisdom is that the Simic-colored Rare is warping the Modern format, much like Oko, Thief of Crowns did to Standard when Throne of Eldraine released. Played in Bant colors on the Modern Horizons 3 Pro Tour and dubbed Bant Nadu, the build dominated the field and the top eight. Many players after the Pro Tour called for the Legnedary Bird Wizard to be banned, including Simon Nielsen, who won the tournament playing Bant Nadu.
Nadu, Winged Wisdom will most likely be banned before the August 26 announcement, but not before, according to WotC Communications Director Blake Rasmussen. The next MTG Banned and Restricted announcement is scheduled for August 26, but this is a problem for many Modern players since the RCQ season starts on August 3.
Adjustments for the upcoming season or seasons beyond are likely, as WotC is still testing the ideal set schedule for banana announcements. The Standard format was a priority when the MTG Banned and Restricted schedule was revamped, and so a B&R will take place just a few weeks after the Modern RCQ season begins.
