Future Macs may get a low-power mode, allowing you to give your devices some extra juice when needed.
How to Use Low Power Mode on Mac | Maximize Battery Efficiency
A recent beta of macOS Monterey includes references to a High-Power Mode. We’re already familiar with Low-Power Mode, which throttles the performance of iPhones, iPads, and Macs to extend battery life. High-Power Mode is supposed to do the opposite, allowing you to push your computer to its limits, even at the expense of battery life. Sounds… useful. But what exactly is it good for?
"Professional software could benefit from this. In our case, we make 3D audio software used by Hollywood studios (Game of Thrones, Star Wars) and our software is very heavy in terms of CPU: it can generate thousands of sounds that are played together," Nuno Fonseca, of audio effects software company Sound Particles, told Lifewire via email.
Low Power Mode on Macs, available in macOS Monterey and on MacBooks since 2016, dims the display backlight and reduces CPU speed to conserve battery power. On iPhone, Low Power Mode reduces the frequency of some background tasks, such as checking email, uploading photos, and so on.
