Samsung is offering Galaxy phone users an extra layer of protection against SMS hacks.
5 IMPORTANT Security Settings Every Samsung Galaxy Owner Should Change ASAP
Zero-click exploits can be used to execute malicious code, leading to all sorts of other problems, by sending an innocent-looking image via a text message. Samsung claims that its new Message Guard security measures can help prevent such attacks, provided you use Samsung Messages or Messages by Google to text.
The way Samsung explains Message Guard is as a “virtual quarantine,” which will automatically isolate any texted images from the rest of your phone. By sealing it off from the rest of the system, hidden and potentially malicious code won’t be able to reach it. And while the image is in quarantine, Message Guard will scan the file to make sure it’s safe.
It’s a process that runs in the background, according to Samsung, so it shouldn’t cause any noticeable interruptions to your messages. Message Guard runs independently and doesn’t require manual activation. However, Samsung hasn’t commented on whether the feature can be turned off manually or if background processes will impact your device’s battery.
