Earlier this year, Amazon moved a number of features to the home screen of the Alexa app to make it easier to control your smart home. Now, the company is taking things a step further.
How to Organize Your Alexa Devices in the Updated Alexa App
Jeff Barberio, head of product for Amazon’s Alexa mobile app, wrote in a blog post that the updates to the Alexa app are all designed to “put the smart home at the center, empowering customers to access their most used devices and features with one to two taps.” This includes several features released earlier in 2023 (like relocated device favorites and a new Home shortcuts bar), as well as a few released more recently.
With Device Favorites, you can access your most used smart home devices right from the app’s home page. The shortcuts bar on the home page now has just three icons: Home, Devices, and More (where you’ll find things like Music & More, List & Notes, Reminders, Routines, and more).
On the homepage, Amazon has further streamlined the experience by condensing the Activity section and placing it centrally, making it easier to find. This is where you’ll see your times, alarms, reminders, etc. And if you’re a Ring Protect subscriber, you’ll soon be able to view up to six snapshots from your Ring camera. Amazon hasn’t yet given an exact date for when this feature will be available, though.
