Forget the campaign missions, new weapons, the Prismatic subclass, or improved Supers in Destiny 2's The Final Shape: the addition of facial customization in the character menu might mean it's time to take off your helmet once and for all.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape | Launch trailer

Many Guardians have spent time customizing their character’s face when they first begin their Destiny 2 journey, only to see their creation in the game’s first few cutscenes and immediately regret their hairstyle or weird face paint. But with no way to change their visage, players would immediately put on their helmet and never look back. That all changed this week, with Guardian facial customization rolling out just in time for The Final Shape.

On the character select screen, Destiny 2 players can once again customize their faces. There’s little added here in terms of additional options, but you can at least spruce up your appearance as you take on The Witness and his forces. Afterwards, head to the Gameplay menu and disable your Helmet option, and your Guardian’s luscious locks will be unleashed in the Tower and during cutscenes.

Destiny 2 cinematic director Jimmie Myers even released a PSA yesterday reminding players that the option to stare directly at The Witness was in the game. "If you choose to put your guardian in 'helmet off,' you'll be able to see your newly customized face in a lot of the cinematics," Myers said. Perhaps we're in for some heavy story moments in this highly anticipated Destiny 2 expansion, and wearing a giant, bulky, or pointy helmet might be a little distracting.
