Josh Wardle, the creator of Wordle, developed the new word game variation as a gift for his romantic partner Palak Shah. It emerged from the workshop and was played as a private game from July 19, 2021. After a few months of exclusive fun, Wardle opened the gates to Wordle to the public on his personal website, www.powerlanguage.co.uk, in mid-October 2021.
