Blizzard is considering adding a story mode system to World of Warcraft that closely resembles Final Fantasy's Duty System, with the primary goal of making WoW's older raids easier to solo. The plans come as The War Within gets its own "story" playlists.
The Story So Far | Prepare for The War Within
The upcoming story mode in The War Within will be a first for Blizzard. It will allow players to take on the final boss of the raids solo, allowing players to still experience the full storyline without forming a raid party or, as a last resort, pushing the raid. And, as reported by VG247, the developers are hoping that if there’s enough interest and feedback for this feature in The War Within, they can implement something similar to WoW’s older raids as well.
In the past, WoW developers added Chromie Time, where players could choose which expansion they wanted to level up. This was a great quality of life upgrade, but many newer players were left with an incomplete story experience because raids could not be completed solo. This is where story mode would come in.
Instead of making a party, you can enter the older WoW raids in story mode, defeat the big, bad bosses at the end, and get the whole experience. To implement a story mode feature into legacy raids, the developers will likely drop the raid difficulty for story mode, or the team will implement a system similar to FF’s Duty System, where you play the raid on normal difficulty with NPCs helping you out instead of other players.
