It’s no coincidence that the next episode in the Classic WoW timeline, Cataclysm, is launching in the same week as the long-awaited Mists of Pandaria Remix event on retail servers. Rather, it’s a piece of careful calendar planning on the dev team’s part.
WoW REMIX: Mists of Pandaria | Overview & Features
The two launches celebrate WoW's third and fourth expansions, with Cataclysm Classic taking players back to 2010 and the MoP Remix event giving fans of true WoW the chance to experience the quests, dungeons and raids of Mists of Pandaria from a modern perspective.
Mists Remix allows you to use all of the mechanics and race/class combinations from Dragonflight in content from over a decade ago. It’s a unique but ambitious evolution in the way Blizzard is approaching WoW’s “Timewalking” content.
The MoP Remix announcement initially dampened expectations among some WoW fans, who believed it might be a negative trend amid hopes for the eventual re-release of Mists of Pandaria Classic. But in a group interview earlier this week, WoW developers hinted at the idea that that launch was still in development, and that the upcoming MoP Remix event on Dragonflight servers would not negatively impact the Classic team's development plans.
